Your way to the Wiechert earthquake station Göttingen
Historical Earthquake Station
The Earthquake Station is situated on the grounds of the former Institute of Geophysics, which belongs today to a church-run youth support organisation named “Jugendhilfe am Rohns”. The site is situated at the upper end of Herzberger Landstraße, in the midst of the densely forested Hainberg hill between Rohns and Bismarckstein.
If you want to travel to the Earthquake Station by bus, please take the bus line 9 up to Rohns. From Rohns, follow Herzberger Landstraße out of town until you reach the gate of “Jugendhilfe am Rohns” on the right-hand side after about 1 km. Here you can find the timetable of bus line 9.
Directions from the town by car:
Follow Herzberger Landstraße up to Rohns and then further out of town. After a few hundred metres, you will see a large arched gateway, the shared entrance to “Jugendhilfe am Rohns” and the Earthquake Station. About 100 m after driving through the arched gateway, you will reach a large, gravelled forest car park, from where the Earthquake Station and the Gaußhaus are located at a walking distance of just a few meters.
