After about 10 minutes, the first seismic waves reached Göttingen 6700 km away, and were recorded in the Wiechert earthquake observatory by the modern broadband seismometer of the GTTG station, a high-resolution Sartorius balance as well as by the historical astatic horizontal seismograph by Emil Wiechert.

The figure shows measurement data with different temporal resolutions. Note the very good agreement between the vertical component of GTTG and the scale registration. The vertical acceleration forces on the seismically effective weights on the scale pan (210 g) were converted into speed values by integration and are therefore easily comparable with the speed values of GTTG.

The dominant surface waves reach their maximum around 35 minutes after the start of the earthquake. Both the maximum upward and downward movement of the ground in Göttingen is only around 0.4 mm – in the horizontal direction it is twice as much.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7067″ img_size=”large” onclick=”link_image”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” css=”.vc_custom_1561462133186{margin-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_single_image image=”385″ img_size=”large” css=”.vc_custom_1561462142626{margin-bottom: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ color_style=”light” css=”.vc_custom_1511172396836{margin-left: -15px !important;padding-bottom: 7px !important;background-color: #58749f !important;}” offset=”vc_hidden-sm vc_hidden-xs”][vc_column_text] Current Earthquakes what is happening with our earth?
