Events<\/h1>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Public Tours (no registration required)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Dates:<\/strong> Every first Sunday of the month<br \/>\n<strong>Start time:<\/strong> 2:00 PM at the Earthquake Observatory site<br \/>\n<strong>Duration:<\/strong> Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours<br \/>\n<strong>Cost:<\/strong> These tours are free of charge and led by long-standing members of our association on a voluntary basis.<br \/>\nAs we rely on donations to preserve the observatory, we would greatly appreciate a small contribution.<br \/>\nEven a donation of \u20ac5 per visitor helps us cover our most urgent expenses.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Private Group Tours (registration required)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On request, groups of around <strong>8 or more people<\/strong> can book private tours, usually lasting 1.5 to 2 hours.<br \/>\nThese are also conducted by our dedicated volunteer members.<\/p>\n<p>Please <strong>use the registration form<\/strong> to let us know your preferred date.<br \/>\nWe kindly ask for a <strong>donation of at least \u20ac75 per group<\/strong> as a contribution to the upkeep of the observatory<br \/>\n(exceptions possible for school classes).<br \/>\nWe will confirm as soon as possible whether your requested date can be arranged.<br \/>\nIf your tour is scheduled far in advance, we kindly ask you to reconfirm approximately two weeks before.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Tour Outline<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A standard tour includes <strong>four key sections<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>New Earthquake House<\/strong>, with insights into earthquakes and recent seismic events<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Historic Earthquake House<\/strong>, featuring Wiechert\u2019s still-functioning seismographs<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Gauss House<\/strong>, with an introduction to geomagnetism and a demonstration of a replica Gauss-Weber telegraph<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Drop of the 4-tonne Mintrop Ball<\/strong>, including a brief explanation of seismics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parts of the tour take place <strong>outdoors<\/strong>.<br \/>\nWe recommend <strong>sturdy footwear suitable for forest paths<\/strong> and <strong>weather-appropriate clothing<\/strong>.<br \/>\nEven in summer, a <strong>jumper or light jacket<\/strong> is advisable, as the thick-walled, windowless earthquake houses are often quite cool.<\/p>\n<p>In rare cases, the <strong>Mintrop Ball drop<\/strong> may be cancelled due to weather or technical issues.<\/p>\n<p>If the number of visitors is high, indoor spaces may be visited in <strong>smaller rotating groups<\/strong>.<br \/>\nWe do not recommend tours for children under 10 years of age (especially school classes up to Year 5),<br \/>\nas the content is difficult to present in an age-appropriate way.<br \/>\nOf course, families are welcome to bring younger children at their own discretion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Click <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.erdbebenwarte.de\/en\/ihr-besuch-anmeldeformular\/\">here<\/a><\/span> to access the registration form for private tours]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>==============================================================<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Lookimg back: ANNIVERSARY DAY Sat. Their enthusiasm has constantly motivated us to stick to our commitment, which we gladly did.<\/p>\n<h2>Anniversary events on 18 and 23 Sep. 2022<\/h2>\n<p>On Friday, 23 September, the Society held a festive matin\u00e9e for invited guests at Holborn&#8217;s House in G\u00f6ttingen. The focus of this event within the framework of the festive week for the 100th anniversary of the &#8220;Deutsche Geophysikalische Gesellschaft&#8221; (German Geophysical Society), founded on the initiative of Prof. Emil Wiechert, were the lectures by<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Andreas F\u00f6rster, Berlin, on &#8220;Alexander von Humboldt and Carl Friedrich Gauss &#8211; pioneers of geomagnetism&#8221; and<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bernd Leiss, University of G\u00f6ttingen, on &#8220;Seismology in G\u00f6ttingen from 1908 to today, application to a geothermal project&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend before, on 18 September, the association invited all interested parties to a special &#8220;Open Day&#8221; with guided tours and activities for adults and children.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;200&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In addition, we organise guided tours for interested people and groups.
